Why I Blog

When I decided to write a blog, it was not my intention for it to be only about food, body issues and mom stories.  I envisioned it to be a place I could write thoughtfully about whatever came up in my life and was of interest to me at the moment; movies, television, current events, etc. I wanted to challenge myself to write more purposefully and in a more coherent, effective way, versus my journal writing which is more "stream of consciousness."  I wanted to go one step beyond the polite...

predictable, limiting, every day conversation which makes up the majority of my adult interaction.

However, now that I've been plugging along more consistently, food stuff seems to be the focus.  And so I find myself reluctant to branch out into anything not food or mom-related for fear that those will be posts no one will read.

Someone told me that before I can truly connect with others, I must fully connect with myself.  This is the argument for me to write about whatever comes up for me and not worry about what a broader focus might mean for reader traffic.

Reader traffic.

This is seems to have become a large issue for me, one that I had no concept of before starting a blog.  I had no idea that seeing the number of hits any given post receives would prompt me to want to taylor content in order to get more the next time.  As I'm writing this, it occurs to me that this behavior might be a tad compulsive.  Hmm...  compulsive.  Where have I heard that one before?

  1. I'm so glad to be a viewer of the journey. Yes, a great venue to seek... because others are seeking too, and they need a leader. A writer from their viewpoint. You are that! Don't be afraid. It's a gift. xo
